Malika Harrison was raised in a family of educators who set the foundation for her upbringing rooted in faith, family traditions, and a sense of pride in their community and culture. Her parents migrated from Jamaica, attended college, worked hard to provide for and raise four children, became homeowners and poured back into the community.
From growing up in Miami to attending college in Tallahassee then moving to New York City for graduate school, and ultimately launching her career, Malika later returned to Florida and has called Apopka home for the past eight years. Actively engaged in the community, she served on the HOA Board, graduated from Apopka Police Department - Citizens Police Academy, tutors at Apopka Elementary, as a licensed foster parent lovingly housed several children in her home, and faithfully attends Saint Mark AME Church.
Malika is fulfilling her calling to serve with purpose and lead with compassion. Running for Apopka City Commissioner Seat 4 is not a haphazard decision, it is progression and continuation from decades of community relations and leadership in the corporate and nonprofit sectors.
Rooted in leadership, service and compassion, Malika Harrison is a seasoned communications consultant and business executive with expertise in public relations, nonprofit operations and project management. A recognized expert in fostering strategic partnerships, she is known for her extensive volunteerism and commitment to youth empowerment, education, and community development, most recently serving as the inaugural President & CEO of MENTOR Florida, an organization focused on expanding quality mentorship opportunities statewide.
